Honouring the Goddess
Shubh Navratri Dandiya Nights was celebrated at the Swan River Veterans Hall this past weekend (Sept. 26 and 27). The event is a Hindu festival observed in honour of the Goddess Durga and her victory over the demon Mahishasura, in portrait to the ultimate victor in good versus evil.
Home Court Advantage
The Swan River Pickleball Club held their first annual Pickleball Tournament at the Swan River Community Centre this past Saturday (Sept. 20) with 60 players from Western and Northern Manitoba, along with others from eastern Saskatchewan. Home Pitch Advantage
The SVRSS girls’ and boys’ soccer teams hosted their home tournament this past weekend (Sept. 13), where teams from Dauphin, Thompson, Flin Flon, and Swan River all competed against one another.
Marathon of Hope
Members of the community took part in the 45th annual Terry Fox Walk this past Sunday (Sept. 14) in rememberance of Terry Fox, a Canadian icon who ran his ‘Marathon of Hope’ across Canada in 1980 to raise money for cancer research. At age 18, Fox was diagnosed with osteosarcoma in his right leg, which led to amputation above his knee. A cancer similar to Swan River local Amara Campbell, who passed away in 2020.
Baseball in September
The Swan Valley Minor Baseball program kicked off a new, fall development program this past Sunday (Sept. 7) for U11 players who are moving up, and current U13 players. The program boasts 24 players who want to test their skills during the fall season. Here, Bennett Harness swings at the first pitch he sees.
Champions Crowned
The Swan River Golf and Country Club held their Club Championship event this past Sunday (Aug. 24) with the Men’s, Ladies’, Senior Men, Super Senior Men, and Junior Boy’s titles all up for grabs. The Men’s title went to Tanner Vestby (77), while Nicole Bobick (99) took home the Ladies’ trophy. The Senior Men title saw Mark Simpson shoot a 76 to take top honours. The Super Senior Men title went to Doug Macleod who shot a three over par 75. Finally, the Junior Boy’s title went to Jake Nykolaishen who carded a score of 85.

The Swan Valley Historical Museum held their annual Harvest Festival this past Sunday (Aug. 24) with tons of games, activities and sights to see during the day. Here, the Harvey Grain Elevator is showcased at its new permanent home as a young child tests it out.
