Uncle Butch suits up with Theo

Getting old is something no one looks forward to in life. The loss of being able to do certain things that one used to be able to when they were younger can be a difficult thing to accept. Then there are those who seem to age gracefully and maintain overall good shape.

Butch Fleury recently put his athletic abilities and physical condition to the test when he laced up his skates and took to the ice alongside his nephew, Theo Fleury, and other former NHL hockey players a couple weeks ago.

For The Fun Of It

Roblin’s Luke Bodnariuk shovels a pass to Daxton Cockerill who put it in the Swan Valley net as the U7 Stars met the Stampeders #2 squad in the Stars’ home tournament Saturday.

The teams play on half ice, without goaltenders, and are subbed off every three minutes during the two 24 minute periods.

While there is no score keeping, Bodnariuk, Connor Baranowski and the Foxon boys – Jordyn and Emmett – combined for the majority of Roblin’s goals.

Other team members were Axel Stroud, Henry Rathgeber, Logan Collins, Talon Stephanow, Owen Piwniuk, Hank Nabess, Kasen Cockerill and Sophia Rathgeber. The Stars are coached by Betty Boop (Rita Collins) with assistance from Donald Duck (Joey Foxon), Scooby-Doo (Josh Baranowski) and Fearless Fred (Andrew Collins). Lynsey Foxon is the communication officer and Melissa Stephanow manages the team. Also taking part in tournament were Dauphin and Grand Plains.
