New condensor installed

Big news to report this week!  The new condenser unit for the Roblin Curling Rink is up and in place in anticipation of a fun, full, and successful curling season.

Without a condenser we don’t have ice, so this was a necessary upgrade to our community curling rink and we are happy to be able to share the news.  \

Memories of Mort's

It’s been 23 years since the closing of Mort’s Grocery Store in Boggy Creek and there may not be anything left of the old store, but the memories of the store are still talked about today.

James Mortemore, known to many in the area as Jim or Mort, opened the iconic groceteria after returning from service in World War II.

More seats for new veterinarians

The Manitoba government is expanding an interprovincial agreement (IPA) with the Western College of Veterinary Medicine (WCVM) at the University of Saskatchewan to provide increased annual funding for the acceptance of an additional five Manitoba students per year.

The news was announced by education, skills and immigration minister Jon Reyes and agriculture minister Derek Johnson.

MLAs went back to work for the fall legislative session Wednesday and the government says it is focusing on the priorities of Manitobans.

“Our government is united and ready to continue working hard for all Manitobans,” said government house leader Kelvin Goertzen.

Sipie's in Pow Wow Pitch finals

Indigenous business owner Dakota Sipie from Tootinaowaziibeeng Treaty Reserve has landed his company, Sipie’s Mobile Wash as a finalist in Pow Wow Pitch.

Sipie recently made his pitch to the panel of six judges virtually, where he was asked a variety of questions.

Take your keys and lock your doors

Police would like to remind everyone in town to please take the keys out of your vehicle when going inside, and lock your vehicle doors all the time.

Locking your vehicle doors is the first deterrent for thieves.

First Nation signs agreement

Minegoziibe Anishinabe (MA), also known as Pine Creek First Nation, has signed a legally binding agreement with the Province of Manitoba and Louisiana Pacific. This came in light of a lawsuit filed by MA against the provincial government and the timber company.

The new agreement settles the lawsuit and provides funding for MA to engage traditional knowledge keepers and western scientists, as well as support MA’s ongoing negotiations regarding moose hunting and medicine picking in the Duck Mountains.

Love Bomb hitting the stage at RES

The Northwest Métis Council has formed a partnership with Mountain View School Division (MVSD) and is bringing in a production called Love Bomb.

The play, staged by Shameless Hussy Productions, is an uncensored and realistic take on how a predator can lure someone in to be trafficked by using ‘love bombing’.

No shortage of candidates

Local ratepayers will have some choices to make in next month’s municipal elections. Elections will be taking place in Grandview Municipality, the RM of Riding Mountain West and the Municipality of Roblin.

A plebiscite is being held in the Municipality of Roblin regarding angle vs. parallel parking on Main Street.

Fusion announces final five

Fusion Credit Union is in its second year of running the Community Infusion competition and has announced its “Final Five” contestants in the running.

Contestants from all over the area submitted applications and represented various business and commerce sectors in the region, with the number of applications being relatively similar to the first year’s competition.
