Christmas in Merridale

Merridale held its annual Christmas concert Dec. 14 showcasing all the great talent in the district and making spirits bright for everyone. T
he concert held in the former Merridale school brings to mind all those rural Christmas concerts past and the children and adults who performed in them.

Nice racks in MacNutt

The MacNutt Hotel held its 24th annual Big Buck Night Dec. 6.
Forty-five guests took part in the supper and the evening. There were 35 horn entries with eight sets scored.

Dead moose in the middle of the road

Roblin RCMP received a call on Dec. 4 reporting a dead moose on the highway. Caller then called back a short time later saying he was able to move it off the road.
Members attended to confirm, and the moose was off the road.

The Manitoba government's 2025-26 second quarter report shows climate change-driven wildfires and droughts, as well as the economic slowdown from President Donald Trump’s tariffs have had an impact on the province’s bottom line.
“... But our fiscal path is clear and we’re committed to balancing the budget,” said finance minister Adrien Sala. “Aside from the pressures of drought and wildfires, we would be within our deficit targets. That means we’re responsible and we have a plan. We’re going to stay on our path and keep delivering for Manitobans.”

New fish and game club forms

If you’re a hunter, an angler or just love being in the great outdoors, a new club has formed in Roblin to look after your interests.
Thanks to the efforts of Jonathan Livingston and Myles Branconnier, the Roblin Fish and Game Club is up and running and looking for members.

Christmas comes early

Christmas came early for the Roblin Fire & Rescue department with the arrival on Wednesday of the Municipality of Roblin’s new pumper from Seahawk Services of Carman and Acres Emergency Vehicles in Wawanesa.
Based on a 2025 Freightliner Cabin chassis, the new unit replaces the department’s old #3 pumper which was sold earlier in the year to the Municipality of Ethelbert.

RCMP Checkstops here

With the holiday season here, RCMP are reminding motorists that officers will be conducting its annual festive season Checkstop campaign on Manitoba roads and highways.
“If enjoying your holiday season involves consuming drugs or alcohol, then we strongly encourage you to plan ahead so you have a safe ride home,” said Insp. Robert Wuskynyk, head of Manitoba RCMP Traffic Services.

MPs want protection

onservative shadow minister for health and Riding Mountain MP Dan Mazier and Todd Doherty, the shadow minister for addictions, called on Parliament Tuesday (Dec. 9) to fast-track Bill S-233, An Act to amend the Criminal Code (assault against persons who provide health services and first responders).
The MPs warned that nurses, paramedics and other healthcare workers are being attacked day after day, and the Liberal government is doing nothing to stop it.

The Manitoba government is launching a new Business Security Rebate Program to help businesses repair property damage and make security upgrades.
The Business Security Rebate Program has $10 million available to provide rebates on a first-come, first-served basis to Manitoba businesses with 75 or fewer employees per location.

Kendrick to join the Cougars

A member of Goose Lake High’s Varsity Angels volleyball team has joined an elite list of the school’s athletes.
Dillan Kendrick will be getting the opportunity to continue the sport she loves at the college level after signing with the Assiniboine College Cougars.
