Local musicians to wrap up Western Canadian tour at WAC

Local musical artists Desiree Dorion of Dauphin and Emma Peterson of Winnipegosis will join Quinton Blair on a tour of Western Canada in September.

The Kick Off Your Roots Tour opens, Sept. 1, in Portage and will make its way west with 12 shows ending, Sept. 14 in Dauphin at the Watson Arts Centre.

Dorion typically likes to tour in the fall. With the Canadian Country Music Awards (CCMA) in Calgary, Alta., Sept. 11, Dorion wanted to build a tour around that date because she is going to be there anyway.

“So just purely out of convenience,” she said.

Dorion and Peterson attended the CCMA’s last year and were going to attend this year’s event together, as well.

“And I had mentioned to her this would be a lot of fun. I think it would be a neat experience for us to do, to take on,” Dorion said. “And then we thought, well it would be cool to add a guy to the mix. So we reached out to Quinton and he was down.”

After opening in Portage, the tour continues in Brandon, Medicine Hat, Alta.; Invermere, B.C.; Entwhistle, Alta; Jasper, Alta.; four days in Calgary for CCMA Week, and then a stop in Yorkton, Sask. before ending in Dauphin.
