The Dauphin Clippers boys curling team fell short of its goal of a winning the title at provincials this past weekend in Hamiota.

The Clippers, represented by skip Colten Gawryluik, third Doug Mansell, second Ryder Chetyrbuk and lead Scott Gowar, opened the provincial competition with a 14-3 win over the Oak Park Raiders of Winnipeg.

In the quarterfinals, Dauphin scored a 12-3 victory over the Portage Collegiate Trojans to advance to the semifinals.

That is where they met the Gimli Lakers, dropping a 7-4 decision.

The Clippers dropped to the B-side of the draw where they faced the Springfield Sabres, beating them 10-3.

This put Dauphin in the B-side semifinals against A-side champion Virden Golden Bears, who eliminated Dauphin with a 5-2 win.

Virden had won the A-side of the draw and had a chance to win the provincial crown with a win over Gimli in the B-side final, but the Lakers prevented that with a 6-3 win, setting up a winner-take-all A/B final, which Gimli won, 6-2.

In the girls provincials, the Carman Cougars won the A-side, beating the West Kildonan Wolverines, 7-4. They won the provincial title with a 7-3 win over the Swan Valley Tigers in the B-side final.
