U13 Stamps Grab Provincial Berth
The U13 Swan Valley Stampeders faced off with Dauphin in a two-game set to determine who would be the Parkland representative at provincials to be held in Virden this March. After winning in Dauphin on Jan. 20 by a score of 8-4, the Stamps finished off the Kings by a score of 6-4 at the Centennial Arena this past Thursday (Jan. 22). With the wins, the young Stamps qualified for provinicals and will have several weeks to prepare. Thunderhill Courts Celebrate 50 years
Thunderhill Courts in Benito celebrated 50 years with a Christmas gathering last Tuesday night (Dec. 9). Residents, family members, invited guests and volunteers came together to celebrate the milestone anniversary. The common room was overfilled as everyone enjoyed welcoming addresses from Municipality of Swan Valley West Reeve Bill Gade, Swan River MLA Rick Wowchuk and Terry Papp, representing the Benito Knights of Columbus, an organization that was instrumental in the building of the facilty a half century ago. After a welcome from host, Lorraine Goodman, everyone was treated to the sounds of the Swan River Mennonite Choir, and, of course, a visit from Santa himself. Atlee Papp helps Santa fill out her wish list with some helpful hints.

The bison of Bison Conservation Ranch in the RM of Mountain approach close to the roadway as they wander among the hundreds of acres they have access to in the southern part of the municipality.
Sliding into Home
The Swan Valley Elite U15 softball team hosted their final game of the season last Tuesday (June 24). The visiting Roblin Angels may have won the game by a score of 21-16, but the opportunity to play in front of an appreciative crowd of family and friends left everyone encouraged about the future of girls fastball in the Valley. A mini mass registration was held for spring minor sports last Tuesday (April 8) in the Centennial Arena lobby.
Frosty the Giant Snowman
As has been his tradition, Swan River resident Ed Maga constructed a snowman as tall as his house in his front yard this month. Check out the sizeable sculpture on the 400 block of Sixth Avenue North.
Getting a Facelift
The Swan River Valley Agricultural Society’s grandstands are getting an overdue facelift. Workers began the process of repainting the Swan River landmark last week.
