First one in the books
The Roblin Fish & Game Club’s held its first-ever event, an ice fishing derby at the Prairie Lake Lodge subdivision on Lake of the Prairies, on March 14. The derby was a huge success, with 96 anglers on the ice, 26 fish caught, and a 50/50 pot which went up to $2,184 which was won by the Lodge’s Tammy Ginelle.

MSVD needs to realign wards
When ratepayers in the Mountain View School Division head to the polls this fall to elect a new board of trustees, things will be a little different than in the past.
As part of their public budget meeting, Mar. 2, MVSD presented some options for the realignment of its electoral wards ahead of the
Oct. 28 vote.

Salamanowicz wins Mixed
A shortage of men with brooms forced the cancellation of this year’s Men’s bonspeil but the Mixed ran as scheduled March 12 to 14 with just 12 rinks in the mix.
The finals in three events, and a special “Bronze medal game” won by Kreutner over Stadnyk, played out Saturday night following another great supper by Marta.

Mark your calendars
The Manitoba government is encouraging campers and outdoor enthusiasts to mark their calendars as the Parks Reservation Service opens for the 2026 camping season in less than a month.
This year, campers will benefit from a new availability notification feature. Reservation account holders may now set up to five availability notifications within their profile. If a campsite becomes available that matches the selected location and criteria, users will be notified by email.

MVSD budget tops $55M
With all of the numbers crunched, Mountain View School Division ratepayers can expect to pay a little bit more for education for 2026-27.
At a public meeting Mar. 2, MVSD secretary-treasurer Lori Slepicka noted the division’s budget needs rose by 5.54 per cent, or $2,901,443 for total expenditures of $55,291,267 in the coming year compared to $52,389,824 in 2025-26.

Chamber holds AGM
Tuesday’s annual general meeting of the Roblin & District Chamber of Commerce may have been the shortest one ever.
The AGM, which took place at the Roblin Theatre, came to order at 7:07, adjourned just 30 minutes later and included the screening of six new videos produced by Community Futures Parkland to promote its “Spaces and Places” tourism series.

MP tables 'Silver Alert' bill
Raquel Dancho, Member of Parliament for Kildonan – St. Paul, has introduced legislation to establish a national framework for Silver Alerts to help locate vulnerable seniors who go missing.
Bill C-263 is informed by the tragic disappearance of Earl Moberg, a Winnipeg senior living with dementia who went missing in 2023 and was never found.

Roblin’s annual Ladies’ Bonspiel played out March 5 to 7 with 14 rinks vying for the coveted Mitchell’s Drug Store trophy.
