The Roblin Wolves will begin practices this Friday, Oct. 21.

This is a great program for youth in the community to be involved in the sport of hockey without the time commitment and dedication of a more structured hockey program.

MP named to Shadow Cabinet

Dan Mazier, Member of Parliament for Dauphin-Swan River-Neepawa, has been appointed to the Official Opposition’s Shadow Cabinet by Conservative leader Pierre Poilievre.

Mazier has been named Shadow Cabinet Minister of Rural Economic Development and Connectivity.

Smirnovs move on

LEARN Coordinator Arla Livingston has submitted an article telling us ow Roblin Forest Products and the community got involved with helping refugees from the war in Ukraine come to Canada. 

One of the families we were expecting chose to remain in Poland while the Smirnov family moved on to Vernon, BC.

Chamber hosts election forum

While there wasn’t much disagreement among the candidates at Thursday evening’s forum at the Community Centre, there were differences when it came to answering some specific questions.

The forum, moderated by Randy Moffit, was sponsored by the Roblin District Chamber of Commerce and featured a series of pre-selected questions for each of the candidates – two for head-of-council and seven for the six council seats.

Province's finances shaping up

Despite the challenges and uncertainties related to the COVID-19 pandemic and its continuing impact on economies around the world, Manitoba’s finances actually improved over earlier projections.

“Last year showed a strong economic recovery, with a low unemployment rate and markedly improved consumer demand,” noted finance minister Cameron Friesen in releasing the 2021-22 year end financial results.

PMH AGM set for Oct. 26

Prairie Mountain Health is inviting the public to take part in its online, interactive annual general meeting coming up this month.

The Zoom meeting is scheduled for Wednesday, Oct. 26, from 12 noon until 1 p.m.

Suspicious peeping people reported

RCMP in Roblin received a report on Sept. 24 of suspicious people looking in shop windows. Members attended immediately and viewed the surveillance, patrols were made with no luck.

Caller called back the next day to let police know that it was his neighbours talking to the shop cat.

It's Fire Prevention Week

Roblin Fire & Rescue has teamed up with the National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) to celebrate the 100th anniversary of Fire Prevention Week (Oct. 9 to 15).

This year’s FPW campaign, “Fire won’t wait. Plan your escape”, works to educate everyone about simple but important actions they can take to keep themselves and those around them safe from home fires.

Fierce Female Hockey Camps (FFHC) just launched in the summer 2022 and held its first sold out and all female hockey camp in Brandon this past June.

On Tuesday (Oct. 4), the venture was named the winner of Fusion Credit Union’s second annual Community Infusion competition – the finals of which were held in Russell in front of an impressive audience of close to 80 people.

New condensor installed

Big news to report this week!  The new condenser unit for the Roblin Curling Rink is up and in place in anticipation of a fun, full, and successful curling season.

Without a condenser we don’t have ice, so this was a necessary upgrade to our community curling rink and we are happy to be able to share the news.  \
