Don and Dianna DeMontigny and their daughters Tanya Thompson and Shannon Leflar have been a part of this community - as well as Roblin - for decades. About five years ago, Dianna was diagnosed with Alzheimer's. Recently, Tanya - who has won national awards as a volleyball coach - took her team to the court against Langenburg for the Serving for the Cause – Dementia Awareness Fundraiser! The energy, cheers, and community spirit were amazing — and together with team family, parents, fans and friends - along with the generosity of local businesses over $2,000 was raised for the Alzheimer Society of Canada!

A loss never feels great, but the Waywayseecappo Wolverines should feel pretty good about the way their team played Saturday night in Portage la Prairie.
The Terriers, part of a murderer’s row of top teams in the strong MJHL East Division, have been averaging 3.7 goals a game this year. But the Wolverines held them to just one, and while they lost in a shootout, they were still able to snag a valuable point off the Terriers.
“I thought our structure was really solid,” said Landyn Cochrane, Head Coach and General Manager of the Wolverines. “We were committed to tracking back, closing time and space, and keeping their skilled guys to the outside.
“And our forwards did an excellent job supporting the play on breakouts,” he added. “Obviously we’d like a different result, but defensively that was one of our more disciplined efforts.”
Better defensive efforts such as this will only help the Wolverines win more games, as they still have all sorts of offensive weapons, led by Sebastien Hicks and Ben Roulette (33 points), both of which trail Niverville’s Hayden Wheddon (34 points), by a single point for the league scoring lead.

Losing in what amounts to a skills competition never feels great, but the Wolverines have to be please with their play for 65 minutes Saturday night in Portage, despite falling 2-1 in a shootout.

The Manitoba government is taking major steps to strengthen emergency medical services across the province by expanding training opportunities for paramedics, Premier Wab Kinew, Health, Seniors and Long-Term Care Minister Uzoma Asagwara and Advanced Education and Training Minister Renée Cable announced.
“Our government is rebuilding emergency medical services so Manitobans can get care faster,” said Kinew. “We are expanding training in the north and opening new pathways into the profession to make it easier to start a health-care career. These steps mean more trained paramedics in our communities, quicker response times and better care for families provincewide.”
The Manitoba government introduced a new direct-entry Primary Care Paramedics (PCP) program this fall at RRC Polytech, allowing students to begin training and working sooner than ever before, the premier noted. The Manitoba government is opening 14 training seats under this new stream to increase enrolment of PCP seats at RRC Polytech to 40.

Last week we profiled one of the top two scoring rookies on the Wolverines – Cale Livingston. This week it’s Brodie Heimbecker’s turn. And just like Livingston, he’s a defenseman looking to help the Wolverines climb the standings in the MJHL’s West Division.
Heimbecker, a 17-year old left-shot blueliner (he turns 18 on Dec. 1) hails from Regina. He played his U-18 AAA last year with the Yorkton Mallers, scoring six goals and adding 18 assists in 44 games. The five foot, 11-inch, 180 pounder already has two goals and two assists this year. Heimbecker says his journey to the Wolverines came about thanks to a suggestion from his former coach. “My defenseman coach from last year with Yorkton put me in contact with Landyn (Cochrane, Wawyway’s Head Coach and General Manager), and he told Landyn a little
bit about me,” he said. “Then I went to his evaluation camp, and had a good feeling about Wayway.” Heimbecker says he’s been adjusting well to the junior A game, noting the pace here in the MJHL is quite something.

Clothing from the Beth Naylor Historic Collection was showcased in the Evening in Paris event in the beautiful Knox United Church in Russell. Some of the pieces dating back to the 1800’s. It was a walk through time as some dresses showcased the opulent 20’s moving into the 30’s and 40’s. Beth Naylor began collecting clothing in the late 1930s. That collection began when she was given a black dress by Mrs. John McMillan, the wife of a local bagpiper.
Since then, the collection has grown to over 600 pieces - thirty of which date back to the 1800’s.

The Western All-Star Challenge is taking place in Martensville, Sask., this Monday to Wednesday (Nov. 3 to Nov. 5), a kick off of sorts to the start of the international hockey season.
The MJHL recently announced the 12 forwards, six defensemen and two goaltenders who will compete against the top players from the SJHL. This heavily-scouted event serves as an unofficial scouting opportunity for both leagues as rosters are considered for the World Junior A Challenge in Trois-Rivieres, Que., Dec. 7-13.
Notable West Division representatives on the team includes Dauphin netminder Justin Perreault and teammate Ethan Stewart, Virden’s Bryce Bryant, Colten Worthington and Lincoln Black-Greaves, Swan Valley’s Crosby Harrison, Tyler Wamboldt and Jack Clark from the Neepawa Titans, and Cole Hunter from the Waywayseecappo Wolverines.
