Lennard churches hit
On the morning of Sept. 2, Don Kobluk, an elder at Holy Trinity Ukrainian Orthodox Church in Lennard, noticed that the front door of his church was askew and the handle had been torn off.
He went inside and found the entire sanctuary covered in fine dust from a fire extinguisher.

Keown up for awards
In the next couple of months, some very prominent music award ceremonies are going to be taking place and a local Roblin artist is breaking his own personal record by being nominated for six awards from two different music award ceremonies.
Ryan Keown is nominated for Single of the Year and Music Video of the Year at the 2023 Manitoba Country Music Awards (MCMAs) for his song A Lie I Can Live With. He is also nominated for four awards as Male Vocalist of the Year, Music Video of the Year, Best Video Performance and Modern Song of the Year at the ninth annual Josie Music Awards in Nashville.

Stolen bike returned
In the afternoon of Aug. 25, Roblin RCMP received a report of theft of bike from a backyard. Two bikes were locked with a rope lock and were stolen.
One was later located being ridden. Person on the bike was arrested for possession of stolen property and charges are pending. Bike was returned to owner.

Writ expected today
If you thought campaigning had already begun with all three major parties making all those election promises in recent weeks, just wait to see what’s coming down the road.
The official campaign period for Manitoba’s 43rd provincial election begins today (Sept. 3) with Premier Heather Stefanson requesting Lieutenant-Governor Anita Neville to dissolve the legislature and issue the writ of
election.

First case confirmed
Manitoba Health is reporting the first confirmed human case of West Nile virus (WNV) in 2023, along with three other probable WNV cases currently under investigation.
The confirmed case is 40 to 49 years of age and lives in the Winnipeg Regional Health Authority.

Family holds reunion
After a five year hiatus, the Gerega and Gregor families, originally from the Roblin area, held their 15th family reunion at the Gamey farm in July 2023.
This gathering marked 32 years since the first reunion at the Gamey farm in 1991 and we’ve seen many changes in our family since then.

Bauereiss ordained
On June 4, 2023, at Bethany Lutheran Church in Inglis, Bauereiss was ordained as a minister in the Evangelical Lutheran Church.
She is the first woman to be ordained in Bethany Lutheran in what has been the first ordination in that building since 1938. She has been serving as a Deacon since 2022.

A new incentive from PMH
Prairie Mountain Health (PMH) is offering a new recruitment incentive of $75,000 to all new physician recruits, including ‘in-progress recruitments, to the region.
The new incentive was announced to communities and municipalities in a letter from PMH CEO Brian Schoonbaert dated Aug. 3.
